A 10-year-old girl passed out on the bathroom floor of her flat yesterday afternoon after inhaling a large quantity of hydrogen sulphide, possibly due to a resident upstairs having used the drain cleaner.

Fire Services Bureau (CB) officer Wong Chi Hou told reporters outside Yau Mun Building in Rua Central that the girl’s father found his daughter collapsed on the bathroom floor at around 2 p.m. He called an ambulance but instead of waiting for it to arrive took her to the nearby Sao Lourenço Health Centre.

According to Wong, the ambulance then arrived at the health centre and took the girl to Kiang Wu Hospital. She was unconscious when she arrived at the private hospital.
