IAM sets up fireworks & firecrackers areas in peninsula & Taipa

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has announced in a press conference that there will be designated areas again for residents to let off fireworks and firecrackers both in the Macau peninsula and Taipa.

The press conference about the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) activities was held at the IAM headquarters on Friday.

According to an IAM statement given out during the press conference, the peninsula’s fireworks and firecrackers zone is close to the Macau Tower in Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen, while the one in Taipa is located in Estrada Almirante Marques Esparteiro. The statement noted that there will be booths selling fireworks and firecrackers at the areas which will be open on January 31 from noon to 1 a.m., and on February 1-6 from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Besides the fireworks and firecrackers booths in the areas, the statement said, there will also be a Chinese New Year (CNY) market in Praça do Tap Seac from tomorrow until early February 1. The statement added that there will be 20 CNY goods booths, six flower booths and four snack booths, pointing out that there will be activities such as a Chinese Opera performances, children dancing, Chinese instrument performances, and CNY stand-up comedy.

The statement said that the bureau will strictly abide by the Health Bureau (SSM) guidelines, such as frequently cleaning the dining area and the stage. The statement urged residents and visitors to comply with the crowd control measures when they are implemented. The statement also said that eventgoers must wear a facemask, get their temperature checked, display a valid Macau Health Code, while the event organisers must provide hand sanitisers at the venue as well as display the venue’s QR code in obvious places.

The statement pointed out that in order to protect public health, all organisers and workers of both the CNY market and the fireworks and firecrackers areas must have had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine or a negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result taken within seven days.

Meanwhile, according to the press conference, the Municipal Affairs Bureau spent 5.2 million patacas on installing CNY festive decorations around the city. In a separate statement given out during the press conference, as it will be the Year of Tiger soon, there are many installations featuring tigers to welcome the new year.

The statement noted that there are 60 locations filled with CNY decorations, including 60 spots in the peninsula, 12 in Taipa and eight in Coloane. The statement especially highlighted the large installation in Largo do Senado, where it has a tunnel full of Chinese lanterns. The statement pointed out that the light installations will be up from this week until the end of next month.
