An event entitled “Immersed in Beauty – Art Exhibition by Connie Iu Lai Chu” (沉浸美好 - 余麗珠作品展) is on display at 10 Fantasia in Lázaro district until February 5.

According to a statement by the gallery, Iu has been travelling around the Greater Bay Area (GBA) since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in late 2019.

The exhibition is co-hosted by10 Fantasia-A Creative Industries Incubator (瘋堂十號創意園) and the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District (澳門望德堂區創意產業促進會). It is sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM).

There are more than 30 exhibits such as ceramics, sketches, watercolours, oil paintings, and gouache (a thick, opaque watercolour paint made with gum containing an inert white pigment to make it opaque).

The statement points out that Iu loves representative buildings and having conversations with plants. She uses architecture and flowers as her elements to create her “Strolling Around the Greater Bay Area” (漫步大灣區) series. Furthermore, the statement also quotes Iu as saying that she “expresses stories on paper with her purest heart”.

The statement also underlines that Iu selected six colours and used clay to create six different footprints. The title for the clay works is entitled “Towards the Greater Bay Area” (步向大灣區) which hopes for a better future in the 11-city GBA for everyone as well as aims to highlight Iu’s persistent attitude towards creating art.

Iu is a local artist who studied in Macau, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. She obtained a master’s degree from the Programme in Comparative and Public History (香港中文大學歴史比較及公眾史學文學碩士) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She has participated in several Hong Kong group exhibitions and created ceramics and paintings at the Bill Arts (標致畫社) and Ye You Liang Qi (冶由良器) workshops in Zhongshan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The exhibition runs until February 5 in Rooms C01 and C02, at 10 Fantasia, which opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays), at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.

All visitors to the venue must wear a facemask, have their temperature checked and present a digital health code.
