The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that Hong Kong authorities said that they found a butter product imported from Australia that is microbially contaminated, but Macau has never imported the product.
According to the statement, the product name is “MG Brand Butter, Unsalted 25KG”, and Hong Kong authorities urged the public not to consume or sell it and the food industry to stop selling or using it right away. The statement said that IAM officials immediately checked for the problematic batch.
The statement underlined that in order to protect the public’s food safety, the bureau has completed an inspection of baking ingredients and visited local supermarkets, malls and shops to collect 80 samples. The statement pointed out that none of the samples showed any abnormality.
The bureau urged residents and the food industry to only purchase their goods from reliable suppliers to ensure food quality, adding that people should not purchase products from unknown sources. The statement said that residents should follow the instructions on the packaging and properly store food products, while importers should keep the importation receipts just in case the items are contaminated or problematic.
