Amendments to the Legislative Assembly Election Law will be submitted to the Legislative Assembly (AL) before the legislature’s summer recess, which starts on August 16, Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan said during a press conference at the Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAL) yesterday.
After analysing opinions collected during the month-long public consultation that ended on June 5, newly added amendments are a ban on lawmakers who gave up their seats for personal reasons to stand as a candidate in a by-election, as well as the introduction of an election deposit, according to Chan.
Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) Director Kou Peng Kuan and the assistant commissioner of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC), Lam Chi Long, also attended yesterday’s press conference that summarised the outcome of public consultation on the proposed amendments to the Legislative Assembly Election Law.
