A 20-year-old local man was cheated out of 20,985 patacas by a female netizen who offered him a purported massage service, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chan Wun Man said at a press conference on Monday.

According to Chan, the victim reported to the police on Sunday that he met a woman through a chat app on his smartphone in early September last year. The woman told him on Saturday that she could give him a three-hour massage for 800 patacas. The victim then added the netizen’s purported male supervisor on his WeChat account and made an appointment with the

“masseuse” to meet her near the Palácio do Sucesso Building (萬國華庭) in Rua de Évora in Taipa the next day. While waiting for the “masseuse” the victim received a call from the “male supervisor” who told him to pay a “guarantee fee” first before he could meet the woman.

Chan said that the victim then bought three gift cards totalling 20,985 patacas in a nearby convenience store and sent the password details to the man. However, after paying the “guarantee fee” both the “supervisor” and the “masseuse” failed to contact him so he suspected that he had been cheated and reported the case to the police.
