A man from the mainland was arrested on Saturday for urging the public to harass a local woman through a live streaming app recently, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Shi who is in his thirties told the police that he works in a bar in the mainland.
According to Lam, a local woman reported to the police last week that she was very disturbed by five nuisance calls from strangers last Wednesday and Thursday. She talked about the matter with a friend and realised that the suspect had insulted her, disclosed her name and telephone number during a live stream recently, urging members of the public to call her. So, she reported the case to the police.
Lam said that PSP officers identified Shi as the suspect and arrested him at the Barrier Gate checkpoint when he entered Macau on Saturday. Under questioning, Shi denied that he disclosed the victim’s name and telephone number, however, after the officers discovered the live stream information about the victim on his smartphone, Shi admitted that he had told the public about the victim’s personal information as he had a dispute with her recently. Out of anger, he asked members of the public to call her to take revenge.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Shi faces an invasion of privacy charge, according to Lam.
