The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that as the authorities in the Chinese mainland have found the novel coronavirus on the package of imported frozen Basa from Vietnam, the bureau immediately tested the affected product, and the result was negative.

According to Wikipedia, Basa (Pangasius bocourti) is a species of catfish in the family Pangasiidae. Basa are native to the Mekong and Chao Phraya basins in Southeast Asia.

According to the statement, the mainland authorities announced yesterday that the problematic batch was numbered DL 370. The statement said that the bureau immediately arranged nucleic acid tests (NATs) for Macau’s frozen food sector workers. The statement underlined that IAM officials also double checked all the samples collected and found no abnormalities.

Since July 2020, the statement noted, the bureau has tested multiple samples taken from seafood imports coming from Vietnam, stressing that none of them tested positive for COVID-19.
