An urban master plan for developing the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) during 2020-2040 double decade was gazetted by the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) yesterday.
According to the plan published in the Official Gazette (BO), which will take effect today, the MSAR will be divided into 18 categories based on its current demographic features, including areas for residential estates, businesses, industries, tourism and entertainment, public facilities, ecological conservation, public infrastructure, green space, and public open space.
The plan highlights the need to position Macau as a key city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), enhance its international and regional status, deepen spatial functions, and advance the general plan for building the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone on Zhuhai city’s Hengqin island.
The plan is committed to promoting integration between Macau and the other parts of the GBA, and achieving appropriate diversification of Macau’s economy, while conserving the MSAR’s historical and cultural heritage.
It also aims to develop Macau into a world centre for tourism and leisure and a “beautiful home” for its residents. – Xinhua, MPD
