The final fireworks show of the Chinese New Year was put on in Praia Grande Bay – Nam Van – last night, celebrating the Lantern Festival with the theme “Myriad of fireworks on Lantern Festival”.
The show took place in front of the Macau Tower. Huge crowds of people watched the show from the areas around Nam Van Lake, with some sharing their opinions about the show with The Macau Post Daily.
A Cape Verdean university student surnamed Coutinho, aged 21, said that last night’s firework display was her first in Macau, adding that it was a “very attractive” show that brought her to tears as she said: “It reminded me of home.” Coutinho also remarked that there were a lot of people watching, adding that it was quite a rush to find a good spot. However, Coutinho added that she hoped to see another fireworks show in Macau next year.
A 24-year-old Portuguese university student surnamed Costa, who watched the show with Coutinho, commented that the show was “very cool”, adding that “it was very engrossing, I couldn’t stop looking at the fireworks”. She said that although their spot did not allow them to view the show in its entirety, it allowed them to experience other aspects such as the “pops” and “the vibration” caused by the fireworks. She added: “I think more fireworks shows is the answer here because people always want to see fireworks” in terms of attracting more visitors.
A group of students from the mainland, aged between 19-23, studying at the private Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), described the show as “incredible” and “fantastic”, noting that it was “absolutely” attractive for visitors. Some of the students also said that it was their first time to see a fireworks show in the city, remarking that they liked the themes that the show incorporated but thought that it was “too short”. However, they emphasised that “next year, we will be here”.
The display lasted 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, two local women in their mid-twenties who passed by and watched the final part of the show, said that they found it to be good. One of the women, surnamed Ho, noted that it was a good show, remarking that “it gives people something to do” especially as it has been over two years since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
They continued to say that although they felt that the show was “less creative” compared to the ones seen during the previous Macau International Firework Display Contests, the show was “a good idea”, with Ho saying, “I’ve not seen Macau so busy for a long time”. They also remarked that they were surprised to see lots of people, noting that the show is a good idea as it brings people together again.
