A local man reported to the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Tuesday that he had been cheated out of 2,300 yuan in a mobile phone gaming scam, PJ spokesman Lou Chan Fai said at a press briefing yesterday.
The victim told the police that a group chat’s message last Saturday said he could buy gaming tools at a low price for the mobile phone game called Fusion Crush (球球英雄), according to Lou, who did not reveal the victim’s age, job and surname.
Lou said that the victim exchanged his QQ contact with the scammer. The scammer then instructed him to open an account on a specified website to purchase gaming tools and virtual diamonds and coins.
The victim said that he then opened an account on the website and found a product which cost 500 yuan, adding that the product consisted of 3,880,000 virtual diamonds, 1,500,000 coins and 160 tools for the mobile phone game, Lou said.
Lo said the victim said that he paid 500 yuan to the specific website using Alipay. However, his account on the website was frozen afterwards, adding that the scammer then instructed the victim to pay 1,800 yuan in order to unfreeze his account. The victim recilised that his account was still frozen after paying the 1,800 yuan.
Lo noted that the victim finally suspected that he had been cheated out of a total of 2,300 yuan and therefore reported the case to the Judiciary Police.
