The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in a statement yesterday that its new round of sign-up for its vocational training subsidy starts next week.
According to the statement, the registration period for two parts of the vocational training subsidy scheme – the “subsidised training for increasing technical skills” and “subsidised training for employability” will run concurrently between February 21 and 25.
The statement said that “subsidised training for increasing technical skills” is suitable for those who are employees or self-employed. On the one hand, the statement said that for those employers recommending an employee who can participate in the training during working hours without being compromised on his or her salary or forced to go on unpaid leave, will receive a subsidy of up to 5,000 patacas. On the other hand, the statement added that for employers recommending a worker who is on unpaid leave, as well as self-applied unpaid leave workers and self-employed workers can receive the 5,000 patacas subsidy themselves after completing the course and exam.
The statement noted that those who want to sign up for a course, after reviewing their eligibility, can download a form and post it along with one’s ID photocopy to the bureau. The statement added that the applicants who receive a confirmation message from the bureau will be able to sign up for courses online.
Meanwhile, the statement said that the “subsidised training for employability” is suitable for those who were unemployed after January 1, 2019, or are higher education graduates, from 2020. The statement said that the “subsidised training for employability” comprises two parts – skills training and employment referral. The statement pointed out that if one completes the course and exam, and he or she is able to find work (start a business, get employed or register for job pairing) within two months, he or she will receive as much as 6,656 patacas.
