The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Friday that Macau’s snub-nosed baby monkey celebrated his second birthday in Seac Pai Van Park recently.
According to the statement, the infant’s caretaker prepared a birthday cake for him as a blessing. The statement pointed out that his caretaker calls him “Lotus Seed” (蓮子), adding that he was born on Valentine’s Day in 2020. The statement said that caretakers purposely made the cake with fruit and crackers. The statement underlined that the baby monkey was excited to see the birthday cake, and immediately ate and played with the cake.
The statement noted that three rare snub-nosed monkeys live in Seac Pai Van Park. The statement highlighted that besides “Lotus Seed” who was born in Macau, his parents were born in the mainland. The mainland authorities signed an agreement allowing Macau to temporarily take care of the monkeys in order to increase local people’s awareness of the endangered species. The statement pointed out that according to the statement, the three monkeys will be sent back to the mainland to participate in the conservation and breeding programme.
