The Philippine Consulate General’s 28th repatriation flight took place yesterday, taking 203 more Filipinos home from Macau, while the total number of repatriates since March 2020 has now reached 5,558 since March 2020, the consulate announced in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, following the country’s easing of health protocols for “fully-vaccinated arriving passengers”, yesterday’s flight was the first repatriation flight that landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Metro Manila since July last year.

The statement noted that the remains of three Filipinos who died in Macau were also taken home on the flight.

Moreover, the statement pointed out that Consul General Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr., who led the consular team assisting the passengers in checking in, renewed the consulate’s commitment to continue the “repatriation programme” until the resumption of regular commercial flights between Macau and the Philippines.

The statement also quoted Mayo as saying that the programme will continue for all Filipino compatriots in the city who want to be with their families in the Philippines.

Those who wish to return to the Philippines can register their personal details at the consulate’s online registry at https://tinyurl.com/repatMacau,  the statement underlined.

According to Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) statistics, Macau had 27,650 Philippine non-resident workers (NRWs) at the end of January this year, compared with 34,086 at the end of the same month in 2020, a decline of 6,436 over two years.

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22, 2020.
