The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) held its Career Day yesterday at the Forward Building of its Taipa Campus, with participating companies providing over 1,300 job vacancies for graduating students across various industries such as tourism and hospitality, human resources and smart technologies.
During her speech at the event’s opening ceremony, IFTM President Fanny Vong Chuk Kwan said that 67 organisations took part in the event, which she noted was a “record-high figure” for the tertiary education institution.
The participating organisations were from Macau, mainland China including the Greater Bay Area (GBA). Seminars were also held yesterday.
Speaking to reporters after the opening ceremony, Vong remarked that over 70 percent of students who graduated with a bachelor’s degree interviewed in the Career Placement Survey for 2020/2021 have found jobs. Vong also noted that the time needed to land a job was also comparatively shorter, with some having been employed within three months of graduation.
Vong also said that in spite of the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, there are still plenty of jobs on offer, adding that recruiters see things in the long term and make future preparations, with job postings such in training or management internship positions. Human resources have also set their long-term goals to recruit new members for future needs, especially for when the pandemic ends, she added.
Moreover, Vong said that the institute does not have detailed data on the number of its recent graduates working in the GBA, but noted that opportunities in the GBA should be considered aside from the job opportunities in Macau. Vong continued to say that in the past two years, the institute has supported cooperation with different organisations in the GBA, adding that the institute hopes to create more platforms for students to have opportunities to develop their careers.
Meanwhile, Vong also pointed out that IFTM offers courses on Cultural Tourism, adding that by integrating cultural tourism into the GBA, Macau could hopefully be able to emphasise and promote its advantages.
