The final round and award ceremony of the “Wynn Academy Cup–2021 Hotel Management Innovation Competition” was held at Wynn Palace on Saturday, the Macau Greater Bay Area Human Resources Association (Macau GBAHR) announced in a statement that day.

The event was title-sponsored by Wynn Resorts and organised by the association, while supporting organisers included the Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and the Macau Hotel Association, among others.

The statement noted that the competition aimed to discover original means of improvements and innovation for hotels and to enable student participants “to leverage their management knowledge to develop bold and creative proposals”.

The statement underlined that the competition comprised 40 teams with about 200 students from Macau’s various tertiary education institutions in two categories: “Research & Analysis” and “Strategic Planning”.

There were 13 teams who qualified and competed for three positions upon assessing written proposals and the competition’s first round.  The championship for the “Research & Analysis” category was won by “Must Win” Team from MUST (Macau University of Science and Technology), while “Strategic Planning “ was won by the “Love Never Fades Team” from the same university, the statement pointed out.

Other winners for the “Strategic Planning “ category include City University of Macau’s “Mountain and Water Team” for First Runner-up and MUST’s “Guangdong Morning Tea Team” for Second Runner-up. Meanwhile, in “Research & Analysis”, MUST’s “One Piece” and “3 Two 1 Team” respectively won First Runner-up and Second Runner-up.

Prizes for the winning team include a trophy and certificate, as well as cash prizes and a Wynn sponsored “post competition development programme named Wynn Experience and Wynn Academy Learning Programme”, the statement said.

Guests at the event included Macau  Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Deputy Director Hoi Io Meng, Department of Tertiary Education Chief Carlos Roberto Xavier, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in Macau General Representative Cui Wenlong, and Wynn Macau Vice Chairman and Executive Director Linda Chen Chih-ling (陳志玲), among others.

The statement quoted Chen as saying that the proposals presented were content-rich and innovative, with some of the ideas worth considering and to be adopted by the industry. Moreover, the competition was important for the city to develop and nurture hotel management talents in the tourism industry, Chen said.
