Vice-Premier Han Zheng yesterday raised three hopes for Macau during a meeting with the Macau members of the National Committee of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing.
Local Chinese media reports quoted Han as raising the three following hopes for Macau: Firstly, to fully cooperate with the government’s COVID-19 prevention measures, to prevent imported COVID-19 cases from abroad, and to prevent a local outbreak of the novel coronavirus; secondly, to fully support the local government in accordance with the law and to do a “good job” in amending Macau’s gaming law; thirdly, to actively integrate Macau into the nation’s development and speed up the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Lawmaker Ho Ion Sang was quoted as telling local media after the meeting that Han praised Macau for its “well-done” COVID-19 control and prevention measures but also urged Macau not to take the ongoing fight against the disease “lightly”.
Lawmaker Chui Sai Cheong was quoted as saying that Han wanted to see Macau’s gaming industry to develop “more healthily”.
Community leader Tina Ho Teng Iat was quoted as saying that Han also mentioned during the meeting the central government’s “overall jurisdiction” over Macau, as well as the principle of “patriots administering Macau.”
Lawmaker Vong Hin Fai said that after listening to Han’s “important” speech during the meeting he felt that the nation “supports and cares about” people’s livelihood and social development in Macau.
The meeting was jointly attended by the CPPCC National Committee members from Macau and Hong Kong, including Macau’s first chief executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah in his capacity as vice-chairman of the nation’s top advisory body.
