A local motorcyclist was caught at his home in Patane district (沙梨頭區) on Wednesday for riding under the influence of alcohol in Avenida Marginal do Lam Mou (林茂海邊大馬路) earlier that day, Public Security Police (PSP) Wong Wai Chon said at a press briefing on Friday.

The 59-year-old suspect surnamed Vong told the police that he works as a doorman.

According to Wong, a male lorry driver reported to the Public Security Police on Wednesday that he had been hit by a motorcyclist. The victim told the police that he had parked his lorry on the roadside to unload goods earlier that day. At that time, a motorcycle hit him and the rear of his lorry. The injured victim fell to the ground. When he called the police, the motorcyclist had already left the scene.

PSP officers scrutinised the area’s CCTV footage and identified Vong as the suspect. They went to Vong’s home in Patane district later that day to question him. Vong admitted to drinking alcohol during afternoon tea earlier that day, and then rode his motorcycle to Avenida Marginal do Lam Mou where ran into the lorry and the victim. The officers gave Vong a breathalyser test and the result showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.33 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for follow-up. Vong faces charges of riding under the influence and evading responsibility. The lorry driver was also charged for unloading goods in an illegal parking area, according to Wong.
