The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) said in a statement yesterday that a deputy sergeant of the Traffic Department of the Public Security Police (PSP) leaked police information to a casino junket boss in exchange for cash and stays in luxury hotel suites for him and his wife.
According to the statement, CCAC officers discovered that the sergeant had frequent contact with a casino VIP junket boss. The statement said that the deputy sergeant, whose surname and age were not revealed, had been illegally entering VIP rooms, providing police information to the boss in exchange for cash, free hotel stays and other benefits.
The statement pointed out that CCAC officers had recently been investigating the deputy sergeant and the VIP room boss, adding that they were able to find large amounts of cash, communication devices and documents at the deputy sergeant’s flat. The statement underlined that the mobile phones, documents, computers and other items are related to the case.
The statement said that the suspect faces abuse-of-power and bribe-taking charges, while the junket boss faces a bribery charge. The statement pointed out that the case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), stressing the two suspects have been released on bail and are required to report to the police on a regular basis.
