The Health Bureau (SSM) said in separate statements yesterday that 13 kids from two schools caught the stomach flu, while four children from a third school came down with the common flu.
According to the statement, seven 5-year-old students from Colégio Diocesano de São José – 4th Branch – School started showing gastroenteritis symptoms on Monday, while six 10-year-old children from Instituto Salesiano also caught the stomach bug yesterday. The statement said all the children had fever, stomach ache and started vomiting. The statement underlined that all the little ones had seen a doctor, adding that one of them was hospitalised due to a constant high fever, but none of them was in a serious condition or had serious complications.
The statement said that the bureau suspected the cases were caused by a virus, but further testing is still needed. The statement pointed out that the schools were told to properly handle bodily waste and keep the classrooms well-ventilated.
Meanwhile, in the other statement the bureau said that the First Nursery of the Women’s General Association of Macau reported that four children, aged between two and three, started to show flu symptoms such as fever, coughing and rhinitis. The statement noted that some of the children have seen a doctor but none of them were in a serious condition. The statement said that the venues were told to deep clean, be completely disinfected and well-ventilated.
