The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested on Wednesday two women from the mainland in Nape for drug offences and seized ice weighing 73 grammes hidden in a nutritional supplement bottle with an estimated street price of 240,000 patacas, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press conference yesterday.

The two suspects comprise a 33-year-old woman surnamed Liang, a non-resident worker employed for about four years as a nurse in a private medical institution in Taipa, and a 34-year-old female overstayer surnamed Zou.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police received intelligence from the Zhuhai Public Security Bureau (PSB) recently that a criminal gang had assigned one of its members to sell drugs mainly to mainlanders in Macau. The Judiciary Police identified Liang as the suspect and put her under surveillance on Wednesday. PJ officers discovered that Liang appeared in Nape in the evening and met with a woman (Zou) near a hotel. After Liang handed something over to Zou, the two parted immediately.

Soon after the Judiciary Police arrested the duo they seized a nutritional supplement bottle from Zou. PJ officers later confirmed that the bottle was used as a cover as it contained 95 capsules of ice weighing 73 grammes in total.

Under questioning, Zou admitted to taking drugs but denied selling drugs while Liang refused to cooperate with the police. The Judiciary Police discovered that Liang had a daily travel record between Zhuhai and Macau, and suspected that she smuggled drugs from Zhuhai to Macau, Ho said.

The duo were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, while Zou also faces a drug abuse charge, according to Ho.

2 Vietnamese men nabbed for drug trafficking

Meanwhile, two Vietnamese men were arrested on Wednesday at the Taipa Ferry Terminal for drug trafficking, and the police seized 40.7 grammes of ice with an estimated street price of 134,000 patacas, drug-taking paraphernalia as well as 2,500 patacas of suspected drug money, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said at a special press briefing yesterday.

The duo are a 27-year-old man surnamed Nguyen who holds a temporary stay permit and a 25-year-old non-resident worker employed as a salesman surnamed Luong.

According to Ho, the Judiciary Police received a tip-off recently that some people were selling drugs in Zape mainly to night entertainment venue customers.

PJ officers identified the duo as the suspects and arrested them at the Taipa Ferry Terminal on Wednesday afternoon. The officers later seized evidence such as nine packets of ice weighing 40.7 grammes in total, drug-taking paraphernalia and some drug packaging items at their home in Zape.

Under questioning, one of the suspects admitted to getting the drugs from a senior gang member and received 200 patacas after each successful deal. The Judiciary Police believe that the two suspects had sold drugs for about a month, Ho said.

The duo were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, according to Ho.
