According to a statement from Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) last month, the resort operator arranged various activities for “single-living elderly members and families of elderly doubletons” of Peng On Tung TeleAssistance Services Centre (Peng On Tung) of the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) during the Chinese New Year (CNY).
The union is generally known as Kai Fong, its name in Cantonese.
The resort operator invited 30 elderly users of Peng On Tung to the CNY market before the holidays, where GEG Director Philip Cheng Yee-seng also presented a 200,000 pataca cheque to UGAMM President Ng Siu Lai on behalf of the UGAMM Peng On Tung Charity Foundation.
The funds went to sponsoring the association’s “Community Caring Programme”, which GEG has sponsored for six years consecutively, and to “subsidise the underprivileged to use Peng On Tung’s services”. The elderly users also visited the CNY market and the GEG Diamond Show, while GEG volunteers also presented festive gift packs and flowers purchased from social enterprises.
Meanwhile, on the fourth day of the CNY, 30 users of Peng On Tung who are elderly members that live alone and families of elderly doubletons, were visited by GEG volunteers, presenting hand-knitted scarves and gift packs that GEG bought from social enterprises such as festive decorations, seafood XO sauce, and vacuum cups.
GEG has been supporting Peng On Tung for 12 consecutive years since 2010, having organised its volunteers to pay visits to its users regularly. GEG has also been subsidising people in need on the use of Peng On Tung’s Outdoor-Assistance services since 2018.
The statement underlined that the resort operator will “continue to fulfil its corporate social responsibilities and to construct a better community for all”.
