The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement on Friday that the book collection for the upcoming Macau Library Week’s book exchange starts today, lasting until April 17.
The book collection will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesdays to Sundays, except on public holidays, the statement noted.
The statement added that those interested can take their collection to the following libraries: Macau Central Library, the Library in Ho Yin Garden, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, the Patane Library, the Red Market Library, the Mong Há Library, the Ilha Verde Library, the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Areia Preta Urban Park, the S. Lourenço Library, the Taipa Library, the Seac Pai Van Library and the Coloane Library, receiving a “Stamped Scorecard” afterwards.
The statement underlined that during the library week’s promotion day on April 30 and May 1, residents can “exchange books of equivalent value” in book exchange venues at the Old Courthouse in Praia Grande and the Seac Pai Van Library.
The staff will categorise books according to their original price, adding that the scoring method is “one point for every 10 patacas”, while the score for books less than that will be rounded off, the statement pointed out.
The statement added that each book’s price is calculated separately, with the scorecard for each point stamped once. Each book or set’s maximum score is 100 points, while unpriced books will be valued at 10 patacas.
Moreover, the statement emphasised that the following will not be accepted:
“Textbooks, exercise books, magazines, indecent publications, books related to religion, calligraphy copybooks, IT books published over a year ago, travel books published before 2020, audio-visual materials, promotional materials, pirated books and periodicals (in violation of copyright laws), damaged and soiled books, incomplete collections and inscribed books.” Only individual participation is allowed.
The bureau said that the books in the activity will be disinfected. In line with the Health Bureau’s guidelines, visitors must wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, scan the Venue QR code and present a valid “Macau Health Code”, maintain social distancing, and comply with the anti-epidemic and crowd control measures on site.
