A 34-year-old local man was arrested for threatening to kill his wife with a knife on Saturday,  Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a press conference yesterday.

According to Lai, the couple married a year ago and often quarrelled over family issues. They had a dispute again early Saturday morning. As a result, the husband rushed into the kitchen, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his wife.

The victim and her two daughters, aged 5 and 7, went to a police station at noon on Saturday to report the incident. In the afternoon, PSP officers went to the couple’s home in Coloane to arrest the husband and seized the 11-centimetre-long knife.

Lai said that the man admitted that he had threatened to kill his wife.

Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leng, who was also at the press briefing, said that the suspect had been involved in a domestic violence case in September 2021.

According to Chong, after investigating further the suspect was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of intimidation and the use of a prohibited weapon.
