Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun told reporters yesterday that in response to the pandemic situation in neighbouring regions, the bureau is now requiring all runners competing in the event to show proof of a negative Nucleic Acid Test (NAT) valid for 24 hours, stressing that the tests arranged by the bureau will be free of charge.
Pun made the comments after a pre-event press conference that was held at the Olympic Sports Centre in Taipa.
Pun said that the 2022 Sands China Macau International 10K will proceed as planned on Sunday, with its possible delay or cancellation depending on Macau’s COVID-19 pandemic situation.
A Sports Bureau statement released yesterday pointed out that runners can sign up for the test online from 9 a.m. today at https://app.ssm.gov.mo/sandsmacao10krnatestbook2022.
The statement underlined that the tests can be taken on Saturday at the Macau Forum NAT Station from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the Pac On Ferry Terminal NAT Station from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Non-resident participants who registered with an ID are also reminded to take their passports for the test.
Moreover, Pun also remarked on the number of sign-ups for the event, which he said did not surprise him as most sports events in the city are well received. He noted that 10,000 people signed up for the race, with around 1,000 sign-ups being runners from the mainland.
The event is organised by the bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, as well as title-sponsored by Sands China Ltd. The Fun Run will start at 7 a.m., while the 10K race will commence at 7:30 a.m.
