According to an MGM statement released on Sunday, 2,800 of its staff members graduated at the “MGM Graduation Ceremony 2022”, which was held on March 10.
The graduates came from three major training development programmes, which are the “PRIDE Programme”, which aims to nurture local talents with four developmental tracks and overseas internship opportunities; the “MGM Academy” which covers areas such as leadership skills and business development; and the “Continuing Education” programme, which enables team members to obtain knowledge and certifications from a variety of accredited training courses, according to the statement.
A number of guests attended the ceremony such as Deputy Director General of the Social Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region Zhao Heqing, Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, and Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) Director Wong Chi Hong.
MGM China Holdings Limited Co-Chairperson and Executive Director Pansy Ho said in the statement that MGM has strived to “align with the Macau government’s policy to prioritise the employment and promotion of Macau locals”, with 92 percent of MGM’s management team being Macau locals.
Ho also said that MGM will continue to align itself with the government’s talent policies to aid in developing Macau and the GBA into a top-notch talent hub, increasing the “nurturing of local professionals and bringing vitality to Macau’s development into a world centre of tourism and leisure.”
MGM cooperated with co-organisers MGTO, the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), as well as the Macau Cuisine Association as a supporting unit, to launch “‘Tourism+’ Cultural Diversity Development Exchange Initiative”, which was officially launched at the ceremony.
The initiative comprises a series of strategic training programmes aimed at nurturing “multi-talented industry practitioners” and strengthening “Tourism+” synergy in Macau and the Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to the statement.
The initiative was co-organised by MGM, MGTO, IFTM (Tourism Education and Training Base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, and The Alliance for Developing Macau into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Tourism Education and Training Base) and FAOM. It is supported by the Macau Cuisine Association.
The initiative’s talent training has three key focuses, which are the “Tourism+” Gastronomy Cultural Exchange, the “Tourism+” Guangdong-Macau Synergy and the “Tourism+” Inclusive GBA Travel.
Moreover, MGM and MGTO also co-organised a community outreach eLearning programme on sign language to promote accessible travel for people with disabilities, benefitting 23,000 people so far, the statement said.
