The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) in a statement on Friday urged residents not to eat three types of Chinese sauerkraut noodles made in the mainland and imported to Macau, due to the unhygienic manufacturing process.
The statement stressed that the three problematic Chinese sauerkraut instant noodles are sold by Uni-President and Master Kong in both bowl and packet form. The statement also said that the products’ vendors have stopped sales and removed the affected products from the shelves. The bureau said it would continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action.
A recent mainland media report exposed the unhealthy production method on Tuesday at the Chinese Consumer Rights Gala, which showed the lack of hygiene in the process of making Chinese sauerkraut at Hunan Chaqi Vegetable Co. Ltd. According to a video circulating on the internet, some workers were seen wearing slippers or being barefoot when trampling on the pickled cabbage while processing it, while others were smoking and one even threw a cigarette butt into the cabbage.
After the incident happened, Master Kong apologised for the mismanagement and immediately suspended its cooperation with Chaqi, according to online reports.
