According to a statement yesterday from the University of Macau (UM), over 3,000 job vacancies are on offer at UM’s online Career and Internship Fair, with participation from around 110 companies and organisations this year.

The fair kicked off yesterday. The statement did not say when it ends.

The statement added that the public university also organised 25 related events such as recruitment talks and career preparation seminars to help graduates find a job, as well as having created a dedicated website offering students “online career guidance and employment information”.

UM Dean of Students Paul Pang Chap Chong was quoted in the statement as saying that the fair has switched to an online event due to the current pandemic situation, offering students a variety of career information with the hope of helping them start their careers successfully in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pang was also quoted as encouraging students to develop their soft skills, especially their “adaptability” to allow them to cope with today’s “ever-changing world”, in addition to their professional knowledge.

Moreover, the statement underlined UM’s Further Studies and Placement Survey for the 2020/2021 academic year as showing that over 68 percent of those who graduated in the 2020/2021 academic year received a job offer before graduation, while 85.5 percent of the graduates that year “were in employment or further education within three months of graduation”.

The statement added that the median monthly income was 15,000 patacas and “the top five industries where the graduates found employment were education (22.3 percent), banking and finance (10.4 percent), trade/wholesale/retail (9.9 percent), hotel (7.6 percent), and engineering (6.1 percent)”.

The fair, which is held annually, includes a number of well-known exhibiting companies and organisations and according to the statement, offers job vacancies in fields including banking and finance, education, and hotel, among others.  It also provides job and internship vacancy information and features recruitment talks and workshops, online career guidance, employment counselling services, as well as assisting second-year and third-year students in finding a summer internship, the statement said.

UM students and alumni can access the online Career and Internship Fair at https://careerfair.sao.um.edu.mo/, the statement said. Enquiries can be made by calling 8822 4839 or emailing sao.career@um.edu.mo.
