Albergue SCM’s D1 Gallery is showing more than 20 artworks at a solo exhibition by local artist Ip Kuai Kun (葉桂權).
Ip’s exhibition, which is hosted by the Macau Belt and Road Painting and Calligraphy Arts Association in conjunction with Albergue SCM, displays oil and ink paintings as well as other artwork.
According to a recent Albergue SCM statement, Ip was born in Foshan in 1938 and graduated from the Foshan Academy of Fine Arts with a major in Oil Painting. The statement pointed out that he is an artist of realism interested in a wide range of artistic fields such as oils and watercolours, Chinese painting, sculptures, ceramics, fabric design and porcelain printing, adding that about 20 percent of his works are part of personal or institutional collections.
According to the exhibition brochure, since moving to Macau in the late 1970s, he has devoted more time to the study of East-West arts and crafts such as by introducing elements of Western painting into Chinese painting as well as traditional Chinese elements into Western painting.
The brochure pointed out that he has made important breakthroughs and his works have been well received by the general public and other artists. The statement noted that in late 2020, he was invited to exhibit 84 paintings at the Mount Fortress Corridor (大炮台迴廊) for public viewing.
The exhibition runs until April 4 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily except on Mondays when it runs from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Visitors are required to wear a facemask and have their temperature checked and show a Macau Health Code when entering the venue.
