Beauty product imports rise 202 pct in February

Macau’s imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products rose 202.7 percent year-on-year to 1.98 billion patacas last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau announced yesterday. 

In the first two months, imports of beauty, cosmetic and skincare products increased 160.7 percent to 3.74 billion patacas – Macau’s number-one import segment both last month as well as in the first two months. 

Food and beverage imports rose 32.3 percent to 1.04 billion patacas last month, when mobile phone imports increased 30.6 percent to 1.01 billion patacas. 

In the first two months, imports rose 35.7 percent to 24.6 billion patacas, while total exports increased 13.4 percent to 2.4 billion patacas, resulting in a trade balance deficit of 22.2 billion patacas. Re-exports accounted for 86 percent of total exports. Some 79.5 percent of Macau’s exports went to Hong Kong in the first two months, when the Chinese mainland, France and Italy accounted for 28.5 percent, 21.4 percent and 13.3 percent of Macau’s imports respectively.
