The Collective Wisdom Policy Centre, a local thinktank, said in a statement yesterday that its recent survey findings show that over 88 percent of the respondents are worried about their current job situation and life.

The street survey conducted last month has 959 respondents, all aged 18 or above.

According to the statement, over 50 percent of the respondents are still “waiting and seeing” the employment situation in Macau, while 25 percent are “pessimistic” about it. The statement noted that over 78 percent of the jobless respondents do not have confidence that they will find a job in the next six months.

The statement said that compared with a similar survey conducted last July, the recent findings show that the respondents are even more worried about their job situation than before, adding that pessimism has increased. The statement pointed out that other than the COIVD-19 pandemic, the recent changes in the gaming industry have also impacted the job market.

The thinktank urged the government to strengthen its support for unemployed workers as well as organise more business matching and vocational training programmes for fresh graduates. The statement also said that the centre encourages companies to increase the number of internship opportunities, while the government should quickly launch a new round of subsidies.

The statement also pointed out that as the findings show that residents are not keen to pursue a career in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the government should launch occupational subsidies to narrow the salary difference between the mainland and Macau.
