The Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) announced in a statement yesterday that it ranks 1st in Macau, 3rd in Asia and 23rd in the world, a jump of seven places year-on-year, in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022.
According to the statement, its world position is “in terms of higher education institutions working in hospitality and leisure management”.
The rankings rate the top tertiary education institutions internationally by individual topic areas, the statement added. Moreover, the statement said that the rankings by subject aim to assist prospective students in identifying leading higher education institutions in the world in their study field, with the hospitality and leisure management subject added in 2017.
The statement noted that QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, the ranking’s publisher, considered a total of 2,182 institutions internationally, a 22 percent increase, for the placings for hospitality and leisure management this year, with an aggregate of 150 institutions receiving a ranking.
The placings consider factors including academic reputation, and “a measurement of the productivity of each institution’s team of scholars and researchers and the impact of their work”, among others. The statement pointed out that IFTM retained its position for six years as the “leading provider of education” in the rankings since its inception, and received the highest scores in the measurements in “academic reputation and citations per academic paper”, the statement underlined.
