Two female owners and a female person-in-charge of a restaurant in Rua de Nam Keng in Taipa used the eatery’s quota to “fake hire” a dozen non-resident workers (NRWs) for private uses, such as working as a caretaker and a personal assistant, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.

According to Wong, PSP officers had been investigating the NRW situation at the eatery and found that there were suspicious activities at the restaurant. After further investigation, Wong said, the officers discovered that since 2020, the eatery had hired 12 NRWs, but none of them had ever worked at the restaurant. Wong noted that last Thursday, the police intercepted two of the NRWs at a Macau border checkpoint and after questioning, the duo confessed that after getting their “blue cards” through the eatery, they had never worked at the restaurant. Wong said that one of them had been acting as a personal assistant to the restaurant’s person-in-charge, while the other worked as a caretaker of her children.

Wong said that the restaurant owners, surnamed Chan and Chong, aged 41 and 39 respectively, and the eatery’s person-in-charge, surnamed Yu, 42, are all Macau residents. Wong noted that after investigating the case, Chan admitted that she used the quotas to “fake hire” NRWs, while Chong said that she was only an investor in the eatery, claiming that she didn’t know anything about the case. Wong said that the case was still being investigated at the time of the press conference.
