A new round of the government’s digitalised food and beverage industry subsidy scheme starts today, and 500 small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are expected to benefit, the public Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) said in a statement yesterday.

The statement was given out during a press conference about the new round of the subsidy at the Chamber of Commerce Building in Zape yesterday.

According to the statement, the application period runs until June 17. The statement said that this year the number of suppliers for the digitalised system has increased from three to eight. The application process for the subsidy has moved online to ensure efficiency. The statement pointed out that within 60 days after the result is announced, the beneficiaries of the scheme must complete the training for the electronic system and start using the system. The statement underlined that the beneficiary of the subsidy cannot use the claim of being “unable to adapt to, or operate the system” as an excuse to stop using the system.

The statement said that last year the subsidy, which is run by the United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macau in conjunction with the centre, helped 86 qualified eateries to install digitalised systems. The statement pointed out that over 95 percent of the beneficiaries said that the new system improved productivity of their shop, while 98 percent of the businesses said they were satisfied with the scheme.

The statement said that there were a number of businesses last year that withdrew from the subsidy because they were unable to submit all the documents for the scheme.
