A collection of ink art is being showcased in an exhibition titled “Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau from 2000 to 2022” at the Macau Museum of Art (MAM), which runs until June 19.
According to a Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) statement, the works are based on the theme “Wild Imagination”, highlighting contemporary ink art in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau “as a medium to express one’s feelings, and its relationship with the imagery in traditional ink art”.
The statement noted that the exhibition also traces the development of contemporary ink art in the areas over a span of two decades through various art works from different phases. The exhibition analyses and studies the artworks from ideological history and sociology perspectives, the statement underlined.
The statement pointed out that the pieces were curated by contemporary ink art critic Pi Daojian, and the exhibition features around 80 pieces or sets of contemporary ink paintings across four sections: Nature as Poetry, Wild Imagination – Imagery, Metaphysical Thinking, and Landscapes in Ink and Water. Works of contemporary ink paintings, mixed media, animation, video installations and other installations from over 50 artists from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) are on display, the statement said.
The exhibition organised by the bureau in conjunction with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, is coordinated by MAM and the Guangdong Museum of Art, the statement noted, and was previously exhibited in Guangzhou.
The museum is open daily, except on Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. (last admission at 6:30 p.m.). Admission is free.
Various works are displayed across different sections of the exhibition at the Macau Museum of Art (MAM) in the Macau Cultural Centre complex in Nape.
