Police report 3 suspected suicides in 2 days, including 12-year-old girl

The Judiciary Police (PJ) have announced three suspected suicide cases, which occurred on Good Friday and Saturday, including a 12-year-old local girl who “fell” from her bedroom window.


12-year-old girl “falls” from bedroom window

According to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Sunday morning, a 12-year-old girl surnamed Chan “fell” from her bedroom window in her family’s flat to the building’s platform on the third floor in Areia Preta district on Saturday night.

The statement said that a resident living on the third floor of the building heard a thud at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and found the girl lying on the podium. The resident told a doorman about the incident. The doorman then reported the case to the police.

The girl was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead after emergency treatment to save her life had failed, the statement said.

The statement said that after a preliminary investigation, PJ officers believe that the girl “fell” from her bedroom window. The statement said no suicide note was found in the flat. However, the statement classified the case as a suspected suicide.

According to a Public Security Police (PSP) statement on Saturday night, the case occurred in Block 1 of Nam Ou Garden, which is located on the corner of Avenida do Nordeste (東北大馬路) and Estrada Marginal da Areia Preta (黑沙環海邊馬路).


61-year-old man “falls” after family hike

According to a PJ statement on Saturday, a 61-year-old local man surnamed Leong “fell” from his home in Fai Chi Kei at around midday on Saturday after going hiking with his family.

The statement said that after the hike, the man’s family members went to a supermarket, while he went home alone. When the family members returned to the building in Rua Sul do Patane (沙梨頭南街), a doorman told them that someone had “fallen” from the building. The statement said that the family members then went to their flat, where they found a suicide note on a desk. They went to the building’s podium on the third floor, where they found him lying.

The man was rushed to the private Kiang Wu Hospital where he was pronounced dead after emergency treatment to save his life had failed, the statement said.

According to a PSP statement on Saturday, the case occurred in Block C of the Van Sion Son Chun residential estate (運順新邨) in Rua Sul do Patane (沙梨頭南街). The statement classified the case as a suspected suicide.


45-year-old man dies by burning charcoal

According to a PJ statement on Friday, a 45-year-old local man surnamed Kuong was found dead in his home in Areia Preta district on Friday where burnt charcoal was found in a joss-paper burner. The man was a tenant of the flat.

The statement said that a real-estate agent went to the flat in Rua Central da Areia Preta (黑沙環中街) to collect the rent at around 5 p.m. on Friday, but found that the front door of the flat was not closed. When the agent knocked on the door, no one answered.

The statement didn’t mention if there was a metal gate to the flat.

Consequently, the statement said, the agent told a doorman of the building about the situation, and both went into the flat to check what had happened. They found the man lying on the bed in the bedroom, and saw a joss-paper burner with charcoal ashes next to the bed on the floor. They reported the case to the police.

According to the statement, a suicide note was found in the bedroom.

According to a PSP statement, the case occurred in a flat on the 45th floor in Block 3 of the La Cite residential estate (寰宇天下) in Rua Central da Areia Preta (黑沙環中街). The statement classified the case as a suspected suicide.

Autopsies will be carried out to confirm the exact causes of the three people’s death.
