The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced in a statement yesterday that the opening ceremony of the Macao Library Week will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Courthouse on Avenida da Praia Grande (澳門南灣大馬路).

The statement noted that in celebration of “World Reading Day” various reading activities will be held in April and May, such as the “4.23 Reading in the City” activity. Members of the public are encouraged to organise reading points at different locations and to participate in different types of reading activities through the “1+N” (1 main site + N sub-sites) initiative.

The bureau will also co-organise a Guangdong-Macau “Half-Hour Reading” activity with several cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the statement added.

The statement said that the event’s promotion days will be held on April 30 and May 1 at the Old Courthouse, which will have games, picture book reading, parent-child crafting workshops, and activities such as children’s picture book exhibitions.  The popular book exchange and magazine sale activities will also be held again, the statement said.

The statement pointed out that those who have redeemed the “Good Book Exchange Scorecard” can go to the Old Courthouse and the Seac Pai Van Library during the promotion day to exchange them for books of the same value.

The Macao Library Week is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the University of Macau Library, and the Macao Library and Information Management Association.

In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) pandemic prevention measures, participants must wear a facemask, undergo temperature checks, scan the venue QR code and present a valid green Macau Health Code, maintain social distancing and follow on-site crowd control measures. The promotion day activities will also implement crowd control measures.
