Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told reporters yesterday that as the nucleic acid test (NAT) validity period has been extended from 48 hours to 72 hours for arrivals from Guangdong, she hopes that over the Labour Day holiday there will be more than 60 percent occupancy rate in local hotels and resorts.

According to Senna Fernandes, MGTO has launched more measures to benefit visitors coming from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and elsewhere in Guangdong province. She noted that Macau’s recent hotel occupancy rate has been around 40 percent.

MGTO said in a statement yesterday that Macau’s Mascot Mak Mak went to the Barrier Gate checkpoint to welcome visitors coming to Macau and to promote the Labour Day drone show.

The statement pointed out that in order to encourage visitors to prolong their stay in Macau, MGTO has launched an event titled “Feeling Macau, enjoy the benefits”, in conjunction with airlines, social media platforms and the online travel agency (OTA), to give out ticket and hotel stay discounts.

The “Light Up Macao Drone Gala 2022” will take place on May 1, 2, 7 and 8, complete with 880 drones.
