The public University of Macau (UM) announced in a statement yesterday that students from its Faculty of Law (FLL) have recently won second prize in the 10th Asia-Pacific M&A Moot Competition’s group category.
The statement noted that FLL student Lin Kaijun also won the Best Team Member Award and the Best Performance Award, as well as the junior merger and acquisition (M&A) fellowship by the China Mergers and Acquisitions Association (CMAA).
According to the statement, the competition is an annual event for the Asia Pacific region’s academics and industry practitioners and aims to create a platform for exchanges between faculty members and students from universities in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as foreign countries.
The competition also “aims to promote dialogue between the business and academic communities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait” and is also used to “nurture future M&A talent in the Asia-Pacific region and globally”.
The statement pointed out that this year’s competition was held online and attracted 16 teams from universities such as Tsinghua University and Taiwan University. The teams conducted “simulations of different real-world problems in mergers and acquisitions”, with topics such as industry analysis and legal affairs.
Supervised by FLL Senior Instructor Leong Cheng Hang, the statement underlined that the UM team comprised team captain and PhD student Evangelina Ao, master’s degree students Yang Suijia, Li Yanrong, and Lin Kaijun, as well as undergraduate students Ho Im Mei and Chan Leong Seng.
This year’s competition was held in conjunction with the private Macau University of Science and Technology’s (MUST) Faculty of Law and the CMAA, with assistance from the College of Law of Chengchi University, the statement said.
CMAA President Wei Lidong was quoted by the statement as saying that the competition offers “an opportunity for future M&A professionals and experts to exchange ideas and learn from each other”, resulting in a “positive and far-reaching impact on talent training and the development of the industry”.
