“The Macao Science Centre’s” (MSC) Planetarium is launching a new dome show titled “Super Salvador” on Labour Day, aiming to raise awareness on environmental protection.

With the adverse effects of the changing environment and climate, MSC Publicity Department Chief Bonnie Fung Shang Yan told The Macau Post Daily she thinks that “one of the best ways to help slow down this process is to educate our younger generation [on] how to protect the environment in the first place”.

The show introduces a variety of environmental protection tips to the audience such as water conservation and forest protection, enabling audiences to think about damage done to the Earth in the past, and learn to develop a good habit of environmental protection. “That’s why we want to have this show for our kids so that they can learn the basics of how to protect the environment while they are still at a very young age”, Fung pointed out.

Moreover, Fung said she understood the difficulty of changing habits, but if done as early as possible, bad habits can be reverted or prevented by telling people about the significance of protecting the environment, saving water and natural resources. Fung mentioned that this would also enable children to share their experiences with friends, classmates, parents and the older generation.

Starting early, Fung said, could also encourage using environmentally friendly materials such as recyclable cutlery and food containers and biodegradable rubbish bags. “All of these are ways to cut down the pollution of our environment and keep our beautiful planet Earth greener and healthier for a longer time”, she underlined.

Admission to Exhibition Centre free during holiday

Admission to MSC’s Exhibition Centre will be free on Labour Day, while the first 30 residents to each dome show at the planetarium will also have free admission.

Meanwhile, the exhibitions “Data Science – Internet of Things” in Gallery 2 and “Macao Colours of Mak Mak” in Gallery 6 will offer a better understanding into information technology’s latest developments and cultural heritage, food, and wetlands.

In line with the Health Bureau’s (SSM) pandemic prevention measures, visitors must wear a facemask throughout activities, undergo a temperature check, scan the Venue QR Code and present a valid green Macao Health Code, and disinfect their hands with alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

The centre is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday, except Thursdays. More information can be found at www.msc.org.mo.
