A 44-year-old local businessman, surnamed Cheong, pushed his girlfriend onto a metal gate and injured her face during a quarrel about their relationship, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

According to Lei, in 2019 the couple moved into a flat together in the central district, and they have a daughter. Lei said that at the beginning of this year, they began having arguments about their relationship, so the girlfriend moved out of the flat with their daughter. Lei noted that the incident happened on Sunday night, when the girlfriend returned to the flat.

Lei said that the two argued in the flat, and the quarrel continued outside the flat, adding that the two were pushing and shoving each other. Which led to, Lei pointed out, the businessman pushing his girlfriend against a metal gate on which she hit her face. Lei said that the neighbours opened their doors and saw what was happening, so they reported the case to the police. Lei noted that the girlfriend injured her nose and ribs.

Lei said that PJ officers took the businessman to a police station for questioning on Monday, from where he was later transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of causing bodily harm.
