Residential building construction for the Macau New Neighbourhood (MNN) project is slated to start in the middle of next year, Luo Ping, deputy convener of the government-appointed Central District Social Services Consultative Committee, said yesterday.
Luo made the remarks during a press briefing after the government-appointed committee’s closed-door meeting with Macau Urban Renewal Limited (MUR) officials at the Patane Activity Centre.
Luo said that this will be the first MNN residential construction project in the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Luo pointed out that Macau residents, who do not own any real-estate in Zhuhai or do not own more than one property in Macau will have priority to purchase an MNN flat. The new neighbourhood is located a six-minute drive from the Macau-Hengqin border checkpoint. She underlined that according to the MUR officials 4,279 MNN residential units will go on sale, with around 200 housing units to be set aside from “talented professionals”.
Luo noted that the MMN project comprises 27 buildings, 80 percent of which are two-bedroom flats, while the remainder are three-bedroom flats. There are 5,000 square-metres available for commercial tenants, car parks and public facilities, she added.
According to Tai Ka Peng, a member of the government-appointed Central District Social Services Consultative Committee, ownership of the flats will follow the mainland’s standard rules, i.e., it will expire after 70 years, adding that Macau enterprises will be given priority for business premises in MNN buildings. Tai said that both the Macau and Hengqin governments are discussing the setting-up of a public transportation system to connect Macau and Hengqin.
Fellow council member Vong Seng Peng pointed out that community facilities such as schools, health centres and public services centres will be monitored and run by the Macau government and Macau associations.
7 buildings in Iao Hon to be rebuilt
Moreover, Vong introduced the planned reconstruction work to be carried out in the dilapidated Iao Hon Estate in the Macau peninsula’s northern district, saying that according to MUR officials there is a high possibility of reconstructing all the seven buildings in Iao Hon at the same time, but this still needed to be confirmed with the affected buildings’ residents. Vong pointed out that the buildings have been around for over 40 years. Luo said that Iao Hon Estate redevelopment project includes optimising the area’s transport system as well as to expand its roads’ width to 6.5 metres.
According to the MUR website, the buildings earmarked for the Iao Hon Estate redevelopment project comprise Hong Tai House, Kat Cheong House, Son Lei House, Heng Long House, Mau Tan House, Man Sau House, and Seng Yee House, with a total of 2,556 residential and commercial units.
MUR is a company owned by the Macau government.
