Three teams from the University of Macau (UM) won the top three prizes at the “2022 Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition”, qualifying them to represent Macau in the Grand Final, the public university said in a statement yesterday.

The winning teams comprise two teams formed by UM professors, which are “UM SupraScience” and “Macau Smart City Terahertz Light Quantum Energy Saver Equipment Project”, and the UM-student formed FinTech Plus, the statement said.

UM SupraScience won first prize for a platform based on “supramolecular technology for live cell-mediated drug delivery”, which the statement pointed out as showing “great potential in clinical trials in the form of reagent cartridges”. The statement added that can be applied to “coupling delivery of a variety of cells and nano-drugs to treat different diseases”.

Second prize winners Macau Smart City Terahertz Light Quantum Energy Saver Equipment Project won for their “terahertz light quantum energy saver device”, the statement noted, which can be used for the city’s smart city development.

Meanwhile, the statement underlined that FinTech Plus won third prize for their “RISC-V framework-based and X86 framework-based volatility calculating platforms using FPGA with attached software services”. They also won the Best Trade Show Award.

Moreover, the statement said that the teams Habitat, Eture, and Fang Yuan Wealth Fund Solutions, who also won Best Elevator Pitch Award, each won an Outstanding Award.

This year’s competition received 71 applications, covering areas such as medical equipment and financial technology, the statement said.

The award ceremony was attended by a number of guests such as Economic and Technological Development Bureau’s (DSEDT) Deputy Director Chan Hon Sang, UM Vice Rector Xu Jian, and Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) Chief of the Department of Students Chan Iok Wai.

The statement did not say when the Grand Final will be held. Irrespective of its name, the competition’s top pecuniary prize is one million yuan, not dollars.
