Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes told reporters on Sunday that her office plans to go to Wuhan and Changsha in mid-May to discuss “Macao Week” events.
Senna Fernandes made the remarks on the sidelines of a Buddha’s Birthday event.
According to Senna Fernandes, her staff will discuss with their counterparts in the two cities venue arrangements and the feasibility of hosting the “Macao Week” events.
Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province. Changsha is the capital of Hunan province.
Senna Fernandes also said that on Friday she received word from the Guangdong authorities that as the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the province has been unstable, the Macau tourism caravan promotion has been postponed until further notice. She underlined that MGTO will keep in touch with its Guangdong counterparts and keep the media posted.
Meanwhile, Senna Fernandes also said that she was happy about the average daily number of visitor arrivals to Macau over the May Day Golden Week, even though the COVID-19 pandemic and adverse weather had affected the number of tourists. She added that the numbers were “better than expected”. She also said that Sunday night was the last drone show of the year, pointing out that residents and visitors have been giving MGTO positive feedback. She underlined that this year MGTO will collaborate with other entities to promote Macau and the idea of “Tourism+” to a wider audience.
