Around 100,000 residents had registered for this year’s electronic consumption benefit scheme as of 6 p.m. yesterday, the first day of the programme’s registration process, the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) said in a joint statement.

According to the statement, 50,803 of the 101,788 who had registered as of 6 p.m. yesterday have chosen to use one of the eight locally-registered mobile payment platforms, while 50,985 have chosen to use electronic consumption cards.

Those who chose to register with the programme with the assistance of staff at the city’s various service points yesterday were able to complete their respective registration processes in two minutes on average, last night’s statement said.

Both permanent and non-permanent residents, i.e., Macau ID card (BIR) holders, will be entitled to a start-up fund of 5,000 patacas, and a discount grant of 3,000 patacas. The period for using the funds will run from June 1 to February 28 next year. The nine-month validity period is two months longer than the previous round of the scheme – last year.
