According to the statement, the accident took place at 5:31 a.m. yesterday, when the 29-year-old private vehicle driver drove on the wrong side of the road and crashed in to a lorry driven by a 49-year-old man.
The statement said that the lorry driver was stuck in the vehicle until firefighters arrived at the scene and helped him out. The statement pointed out that the lorry driver injured his right knee and was taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment.
The statement said that the car driver’s breathalyser test showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.27 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood. The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested the drunk driver for further investigation.
