The Social Welfare Bureau (IAS) announced in a statement yesterday that it will launch its annual “Happy Family Month” series of activities from later this month to next, with the aim of improving parenting education.
According to the statement, the activities, which will be held through a variety of means including online platforms, community outreach activities and mini-workshops, aim to improve parenting education and to provide parents with more online self-learning resources.
The bureau said that the “Happy Family Month” will include a total of 300 activities, targeting newlyweds, families with infants, toddlers or teenagers, and the elderly.
The bureau said the series of activities aims to raise awareness of seeking early help when family problems arise, by organising activities such as parenting education, shared parenting approaches, childcare education, gender relations, and family financial management.
The bureau also said it recently organised three anti-domestic violence workshops aiming to improve the knowledge and capacity of childcare workers to identify the occurrence of domestic violence against children and to seek help for the victims from the proper institutions.
According to the statement, the workshops included issues such as identifying potential victims of domestic violence through physical, psychological and behavioural signs, as well as procedures for reporting and handling cases of domestic violence.
The statement said participants found the workshops informative, practical, and helpful in dealing with suspected cases of domestic violence.
