A 65-year-old local man exposed his genitals to a female passer-by in Nam Van last week when he asked her for directions, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.
However, after his arrest the man told the police that he had just “carelessly” exposed his private parts when he was scratching his itchy thigh and genitals.
According to the spokesperson, the man, surnamed Hong, told the police that he is unemployed.
The victim is a mainlander enrolled in a higher education institution in Macau.
When the woman was walking in Avenida Doutor Mário Soares (蘇亞利斯博士大馬路) on Sunday night last week, Hong, who was wearing shorts, approached her asking for directions, during which he raised his right leg in a way that exposed his genitals, the spokesperson said.
The woman got scared and left the scene, after which she reported the case to the police.
After scrutinising the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system, PSP officers identified Hong as the suspect, and caught him the next morning when he was walking in the nearby Avenida Comercial de Macau (澳門商業大馬路), the spokesperson said.
Under questioning by the police, according to the spokesperson, Hong denied having deliberately exposed his genitals to the woman. He told the police that when he was asking her for directions, his thigh and genitals felt itchy so he scratched them, “carelessly” exposing his genitals.
Notwithstanding his denial, the spokesperson said, the Public Security Police have transferred Hong to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation, where he is facing an exhibitionism charge, which carries a prison term of up to one year.
