‘Macao Back to Common Roots Narrative Film’ writing contest starts

The “Macao Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” writing competition is being hosted by MGM, the Macau Cultural Development Promotion Association and Pen of Macau with the theme of “patriotism”, which runs until September 16, according to a statement by MGM yesterday.

MGM held a press conference yesterday at the ballroom of MGM COTAI to introduce the writing contest’s details.

The statement underlined that the “Macao Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” has been presented in the form of a scroll through an innovative artistic technique to show Macau’s history of more than 500 years under a new perception, which has been on display in the MGM COTAI theatre for five months. In order to allow young people to gain a more profound knowledge of their city as well as to awaken their “home” sense of belonging.

MGM, the Macao Cultural Development Promotion Association and Pen of Macau organised the writing competition for young locals to write about their “love” for Macau and to share the spirit of “Loving the Motherland and Loving Macau”, the statement underlined.

The statement noted that so far 6,000 people from 180 organisations have watched the narrative film since its theatrical release in MGM COTAI.

The statement noted that students from secondary schools and tertiary education institutions are welcome to join the competition to share their feelings about Macau after watching the “Macao Back to Common Roots Narrative Film”, with the theme of “patriotism”. Participants will be divided into three groups – tertiary education institutions, senior high schools and junior high schools, and each category will be awarded a first prize, second prize, third prize and recognition awards respectively, as well as a group award.

The statement underlined that participants must send their essays with an application form and ID (BIR) copy to Pen of Macau by email (penofmacau@gmail.com) with the subject “Macao Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” movie review writing contest on or before September 16. The statement added that the articles can be sent through schools or individually, and each school will be limited to 20 submissions, while there is no limit on the number of articles submitted by individual participants.
