Taipei Economic and Cultural Office chief Lu Chang-shui said yesterday his office would release more information to raise awareness among local students about the differences in the legal systems between the two places before going to study there.

Lu made the remarks on the sidelines of a banquet held at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape last night when asked by reporters for his comments on a local student who is studying in Taiwan and has been accused of killing two stray cats there, according to Taiwan media reports.

The office, which unofficially represents the Taiwan authorities in Macau, hosted the banquet to honour local students who have recently graduated from tertiary education institutions in Taiwan. Several dozen fresh graduates and local alumni of Taiwan universities attended the event.
